The manufacturer of a blood thinner suggested to cause life-threatening episodes of internal bleeding continues to deny the severity of Xarelto risks, but can’t ignore the thousands of injury reports now filed over the medication.

Among other things, complaints filed in the U.S. and Europe allege cerebral and gastrointestinal hemorrhaging, strokes and other internal bleeding complications caused by Xraelto. This is because there is no known antidote to stop internal bleeding once it begins, unlike similar effects in patients taking warfarin, a decades-old alternative that is prescribed for similar uses under the brand name, Coumadin. Warfarin bleeding episodes can be stopped with the administration of Vitamin K.
